Fløyen: A Must-Visit in Bergen
Fløyen is one of Bergen’s top attractions, offering stunning views over the city and surrounding landscapes. Whether you ride the funicular to the top or take a leisurely walk back down, it’s an experience that belongs on every visitor’s itinerary.
The Fløibanen funicular takes just 4–8 minutes to reach the summit. If you choose to walk back down, expect a scenic and enjoyable 3-kilometer route that takes about 45 minutes.
At the top, you’ll be rewarded with more than just breathtaking views. Fløyen boasts a variety of attractions, including the Fløirestauranten restaurant, Fløistuen shop and café, Skomakerstuen café, the unique Cone accommodation, a large playground, a magical troll forest, friendly goats, and expansive hiking trails. The area is fully wheelchair accessible and has restroom facilities available.
While some days may be cloudy, making views limited, the trip is still worthwhile—especially for the delicious waffles served at the top!
Getting There
The Fløibanen funicular departs from Vetrlidsallmenningen 23A, just a five-minute walk from the Fish Market. Head towards the large white building near the Fiske Target. Facing that building, look to your right—you’ll spot a small newsagent and a pedestrian crossing. Cross the street, walk up the right side of the charming old building called Kjøttbasaren (pictured below), and at the top of the street, you’ll find the entrance to the funicular that will take you up to Mount Fløyen.

Fløibanen runs every 15 minutes. There will be extra departures directly to Fløyen during popular travel times. Before 10:00 and after 19:00 they have departures every whole and half hour.
