Torgallmenningen

Torgallmenningen Is the main square in the centre of Bergen.

Its has a very popular meeting point at one end, called Den blå stein or The Blue Stone in English and at the other end is Sjømannsmonumentet the sailors Monument.

In between these 2 meeting points is an open square that is surrounded by many popular retail shops and also a shopping centre and department store.

It's the main shopping area in Bergen for locals and has a busy outside area where you can take a coffee or a wine / Beer during the summer days. This open area was only recently approved to serve alcohol due to the strict alcohol laws in Norway, but it has rapidly become a popular place for tourists to sit, relax and people watch.

Attached to the Torgallmenningen is a shopping centre called Galleriet. This is a small centre that has many international shops such as H&M, Nespresso and Levis.

There's also a supermarket in the basement.

It also has places to eat, coffee shops and one of the best bakeries in Bergen called BIT. This is arguably the best place to eat the famous Skillingsboller of Bergen (cinnamon role). They often have offers on where you get 4 for 129Kr. Trust me one is sufficient enough for 1 person although if your a family, or wish to have a treat back on the ship or in your hotel, definitely take 4 different ones as a deal. you will not be disappointed.

Just off Torgallmenningen and up from the The Blue Stone is the national theatre. On the pleasant 5 minute walk to the theatre you will pass a few bars and restaurants that are very popular in the city such as MM Atmosphere that has an Indoor/outdoor rooftop area with fantastic views of the city.

On the other side of the blue stone and heading towards the main train station you will find the Musikkpaviljongen, Festplassen and Lille Lungegårdsvannet.

These are also must see places whilst you're in and around Torgallmenningen.

You can find out more about these here.

your welcome,

Billy
