Bryggen
Bryggen is one of Bergen’s most iconic landmarks—a historic harbor district that’s steeped in tradition and charm. Rebuilt after the great fire of 1702, Bryggen is now a proud member of UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
Despite suffering several fires over the years—the last one in 1955—Bryggen has been carefully restored to reflect its original look and feel. Today, it stands as one of Norway’s most treasured attractions.
Though only a quarter of its original size, the area still features 62 small wooden buildings that offer a glimpse into the life of a working harbor from centuries past.
Wander through narrow alleyways lined with cozy local cafés, artisan shops, and plenty of spots to pick up unique souvenirs. The old wooden structures and winding pathways transport you back in time, offering a truly authentic experience.
Be sure to stop by Julehuset, a charming Christmas store that’s open year-round and filled with festive goods—many with a delightful Norwegian twist.
Bryggen is a must-visit during your time in Bergen. Just keep in mind that it can get quite busy, and the lanes are often narrow—so take your time and enjoy the atmosphere
